The waterways covered by this Great Rivers section range from challenging commercial waterways like the Waal and the Nieuwe Waterweg, to the sleepy backwaters of the Biesbosch and the Linge. Each present their own challenges and rewards, including a through route to Germany, or the opportunity to explore the nearest thing the Netherlands has to a wilderness. These waterways also provide the vital link between Zeeland and the route north to Amsterdam, as well as leading boats inland to the lesser visited regions.
