IJmuiden forms an important coastal harbour and a useful arrival and departure point for boats from the East Coast. The main harbour lies seaward of the locks making it easy to come and go. There are extensive facilities on site which is a good job as it is about 3-4 kilometres to the town centre, although there is a regular bus service.
