Frequently transited as part of the mast-up route, there is much to this region than as a highway to the north. Former peat works have left some beautiful open lakes, and the market towns and historic cities, each with their own individual character are ideal to visit during the summer months, when many local boaters leave their regular berths for holidays elsewhere.
